Job role:
- Set design
In September 2018, I was asked if I wanted to help out with designing the set of the upcoming Tokyo World Festival in Bristol. After being given a short brief of what I would be expecting, me and another member, Ed, agreed to help out. Once arriving, we were both given a high vis and a hard hat, as there would be a lot of people setting up around the field. We began setting up by unrolling all of the rolls of wood, and attaching them to one another. We were assisted by other people to help us attach the wood to the top of the building. Though this was not something I was used to, I found this very enjoyable. This was a good experience as I had not done much set design in the past, as well as working with a new branch of people I had not worked with before. There was once instance when the weather began to get more windy, and so the pieces of wood were not strong enough, and some began to fall down. We then had to take down all of the work that we had started, and start working with a stronger roll of wood. Although this was a lot of work, this was ideal as it would have become a safety hazard if the building began falling apart during the festival. Overall I enjoyed the experience and felt I had learned a lot from it, as this is not the kind of things I do.
